Holiday Gift Guide for Toddlers

November 26, 2017

Toddler_Holiday-Gift-Guide copyHave you been watching my Instagram stories lately? Well, if so, you will see that over the course of the last few months, our two-nearly-three-year-old daughter’s personality is really starting to come out. Some days I love it. Other days I am terrified, but for the most part, I enjoy the daily giggles I get from the cute, honest, and spontaneous things she says.

We are in full Christmas mode here in our home. It is true when they say that the holiday magic returns once you have children. Suddenly that butterflies in your belly magic that once existed as a child returns and you feel the spirit of the holiday season return. We are enjoying creating new traditions and celebrating ones that our parents started with us.

At this age, Lo changes her Christmas wish list quite a few times in one day. I really do not know what she wants but instead, know she will like just about anything. As shopping has already begun, here are a few favorites for Toddlers this holiday season.

Play Kitchen  |  Mixer Set  |  Fridge Food  |  “Everything is Mama” Book  |  Sleeping Bag  |  Table Top Easel  |  Circus Mice in Tent  |  Kids Chair  |  Farmers Market Playtime Kit  |  My Mommy’s Tote

What is your favorite from the list or what holiday gift ideas for toddlers would you like to share?

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

April 19, 2016

Mom, Mommy, Mam, Mama, Mudda or Mother – whatever you can her, well it is her day and it is right around the corner.

May I suggest a homemade or well-written card / letter, a home cooked meal, a spa treatment, or a bottle of wine? All those things will do. After all she deserves it after putting up with your crap since the last Mother’s Day. Just kidding. Or, am I?

All joking aside, Mother’s Day is a day dedicated to motherhood and all of its goodness. I had to chuckle, when I looked up the history of Mother’s Day and read this sentence, “traditionally involves presenting mothers with flowers, cards and other gifts.” Basically, we want your gifts, folks.

Anna Reeves Jarvis of West Virginia can be credited to the early roots of Mother’s Day. She began a “Mother’s Day Work Club” to teach local women how to care for their children. It wasn’t until 1905, when Jarvis’ daughter, Anna Jarvis truly developed what is known today as Mother’s Day, shortly after her mother’s death. The idea was that Mother’s Day was to be honored throughout the country, but on a personal level with mothers and their families.Mothers-Day-Gift-Ideas_BackwardsNHighHeels-Blog copy

One – 20.00  |  Two – 26.00 |  Three – 45.00  |  Four – 150.00  |  Five – 18.00  |  Six – 10.99  |  Seven – 19.99

Want to know the irony? Young Anna Jarvis worked in the floral industry and by the 1920’s, you know 15 years after starting this wonderful day, she became disgusted with how the holiday was over “commercialized.”

“Hey, Anna. Were you making money on your flowers?” Shaking my head. So according to my source, “She outwardly denounced the transformation and urged people to stop buying Mother’s Day flowers, cards and candies.” She also launched a few lawsuits here and there over the use of the “Mother’s Day” name. By the time she died in 1948, she completely disowned the holiday she created.

The article never shared so I did some digging myself, Anna Jarvis was never a mother.

So, I am sure if she was alive today she would despise my post on Mother’s Day Gift Ideas. She would block me on social media and she probably would send me a comment detesting my commercialization of this holiday. My response would be, “Hey, Anna, I haven’t sleep in 16-months and I have entered the whiny toddler phase, followed by epic meltdowns, I think I would thoroughly enjoy breakfast in bed and some hot pink Hunter Boots. Thank you!”

Holiday Gift Guide For a 1 Year Old

November 22, 2015

Holiday-Gift-Guide_For-BabyWell this weekend we sighed heavy, smiled and realized we have an 11 month old. Where in the heck did the last few months of time go? 11 months has ushered in an ornery side to her personality. She actually understands some of our verbal cues and giggles, scowls and even mocks us now. Oh, boy, our hands are full!

As we near her first birthday and Christmas, I find myself scouring the web late at night, after she has long gone to bed, for gift ideas.

I am a firm believer in quality over quantity when it comes to toys. Now, I know that very statement is going to earn me some eye rolls, especially from some of Baby Lo’s relatives who hear me whine about not wanting a living room full of bits and pieces of random toys.

Tiny house = tiny toy box, Baby Lo. Sorry about your luck! HaHa. Just kidding. Well sort of.

So, if you find yourself with a baby (okay, I know she is an infant and soon toddler – what!) on your Christmas List, that is nearing or around 1-year’s old, please consider some of my top picks.
