Hey there, Momma dear. I see you and I feel you. Right now you are beating yourself up over something you didn’t do, or actually maybe something you did do or something you said, but regardless of where you fall on the feelings spectrum, I am sure at some moment you have felt a form of failure. Mom guilt is real, raw and creeps up in the depths of your gut and swirls through your soul to overwhelm you with that “gotcha feeling” that makes you just slump over in all the bad feels. Momma, I am here for you and here to tell you that you got this.
And, here is your reminder you that you are still a great mom even if you…
Give in and let them eat pizza, ramen noodles or a handful of Pringles for breakfast.
Remember their packed lunch on the dining room table, on the way to taking them to school.
Allow them to entertain themselves on your cell phone so you can enjoy the rest of your dining out experience.
Tell them that the local Burger King has officially closed because the enclosed jungle gym germs freak you out.
You are still a great mom if you…
Throw away the finger paint picture you saved, swearing you would one-day scrapbook.
Pick up that string cheese you drop on the floor and allow them to eat it.
Forget to wash their hair during bath time to avoid the screaming.
Hide away in your bedroom, shut the door, and scream into a pillow over frustrations.
And, Momma, hey, you are still a great mom if you…
Seriously cannot wait until bedtime.
Purposely skip pages in the bedtime story to speed this thing up.
Let them cry themselves in their crib to sleep.
Fight with your husband each night for caving in and letting them come in to snuggle in your bed.
You are still a great mom if you…
Tell them that Santa Claus does indeed see when they go to the bathroom in their pants. Ugh, to potty training.
Shove the last Oreo in your mouth and answer “Nothing” when they ask what you are eating.
Serve them chicken nuggets and fries five out of seven nights per week.
Put on the TV just so you can catch a break to cook dinner, do laundry, heck, Facebook surf for a few.
Now, I am looking at you and you are still a great mom if you…
Have not physically showered in three days.
Are still in your Yoga pants that you wore yesterday.
Leave your baby with a sitter so you can go get a pedicure.
Pour yourself a glass, make that a tall glass of wine at noon.
You are still a great mom even if you…
Are frustrated, desperate, tired or purely exhausted.
Momming is not perfect. It is hard, messy and full of mistakes. But you are trying, even if you feel like a failure you are trying. And that is how I know you are a great mom. Because you care so much it hurts you. Sometimes when we love so hard, we fight even harder. So, hang in there Momma, you are doing great.
