Bedtime. It is definitely not the sweetest spot of our every day. Lately Lo wants to stay up later and later, and I tend to be mush when it comes to bedtime. I am that Mom who cannot stand when her child stands at the dinner table, or when her two-year old refuses to eat decent food and instead insists on white bread with butter, but two hours of fighting bedtime and I am all like, “Oh, she is just a baby.”
Here is my problem, Lo wants to fall asleep in our bed. I know. We created a bedtime monster, but secretly I adore the downtime with her. And, that is the thing too. She wants me to lay with her. She will actually call out, “Mommy lay with me!” And, then how can I resist? I can’t!
Some nights I cringe at the thought because I know, this weary eyed thirty year old is going to crash and burn alongside her two year old. No chance of the well thought nighttime work out session, writing on the blog or watching a movie with my husband. Nope! I am going to bed with her.
So, it kind of has to stop. Nathan is really the one pushing for a bedtime routine, and is a big fan of the read a book and put in her own bed method. I will give him the credit!
We let Lo pick out the books. Typically we keep it to two or three but we always end up reading more. I have to pry the books out of her hands before lights out. I am unsure if she is fighting bed or actually enjoying the process of reading. Lately, she reads along which is fascinating and sweet!
“Piggy Pie Po” one of our favorites, I can ask her, “Lo, what can’t Piggy Pie Po do?” And she will reply, “Tie his shoe – yet!”
